Supporting advocacy for older people in the personalisation process
OPAAL, the Older People’s Advocacy Alliance, has recently completed the Making it Personal (MIP) project. Funded by the Department of Health, MIP sought to show the benefits of independent advocacy for older people in the personalisation process.
As a result of the project a number of resources, including toolkits that are now available on the OPAAL website.
Project toolkits contain really useful information on how each organisation carries out its advocacy work as well as how they have dealt with the challenges of personalisation in their local areas.
The website also has a number of short films of the participants explaining their advocacy work and of service users talking about their advocacy experiences.
Additional resources include the real life advocacy stories of 20 service users. These were provided by each of the 5 participating project group organisations as well as by the BME community in London and Advocacy for Independence (AfI), the advocacy service of the Independent Living Association West Sussex.
