I have been working with a man who has been affected by cancer, who sadly passed away. His sister sent me a thank you card with the following message in it, which affirms my belief in the work that I am doing on this project and why we need to reach out to help those in our communities affected by cancer, here goes…

Dear Alan
Thank you for coming to my brother’s funeral. It was a great comfort to me to know that you cared enough to come. You are obviously the right person to work for Age UK. Thank you once more. I read your leaflet- it was good to know that there is help for people in the situation they are in. Our dad also died of lung cancer-an organisation like yours would have been of enormous benefit to our family but there was no help of any kind then and we just had to get on with losing a 53 year old dad and husband. Keep up your good work, Alan.
