This guide, produced by Age Concern organisations in South East Wales, is based on experience of providing independent non-instructed advocacy to older people living in care home settings. However, the information should be of equal interest to any independent advocate providing non-instructed advocacy to any individual. The guide covers independent advocacy and the principles of advocacy and the development of non – instructed advocacy. It also provides an insight into capacity, the assessment of capacity, the mental capacity act and deprivation of liberty safeguards. Communication tools and techniques are also provided. For more information or to obtain a copy of the guide email phil.vining@age-concern-cardiff.org.uk
