This year Carers Rights Day is taking place on Friday 29th November and the theme is ‘rights, advice, support’, focusing on ensuring that carers understand their rights and get access to good quality advice that can support them to care.
Carers Rights Day aims to make carers aware of different kinds of practical support that could support them to care. This could include monitoring systems to enable carers to have a good nights sleep or support with caring issues to enable carers to continue in employment.
Our Cancer, Older People and Advocacy pilot project has always included support for older carers affected by cancer. We understand that it’s not only the person with the diagnosis that needs support. Our peer advocates offer practical and emotional support for those who need it.
If you are an older carer of someone affected by cancer then we currently offer advocacy support in the following geographic areas:
Sefton – contact Sefton Pensioners’ Advocacy Centre on 01704 538411
Dorset – contact Dorset Cancer Advocacy on 0300 111 3303
Gateshead – contact Gateshead Cancer Advocacy 0191 477 559
