OPAAL recognises that older people are the most diverse group of people in our communities, we expect our advocates to be working with older lesbian, gay and bisexual older people affected by cancer and so are very pleased to share with you Stonewall’s new publication Working with older lesbian, gay and bisexual people: A Guide for Care and Support Services.
This guide offers practical advice to organisations providing care and support services about how to meet the needs of lesbian, gay and bisexual people.
Also Stonewall’s research, published in 2011: Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual People in Later Life. In the first study of its kind in Britain, Stonewall commissioned YouGov to survey a sample of 1,050 heterosexual and 1,036 lesbian, gay and bisexual people over the age of 55 across Britain. This report provides a compelling evidence base for the first time about older lesbian, gay and bisexual people in this country. It also provides practical recommendations for a range of agencies about how to improve things. Both publications can be found here: www.stonewall.org.uk/age
